Checking the garden

Like everyone else in the country, we've been dealing with a summer heat wave - near 100 degrees every day, for at least a week.  While it leaves me in puddles of sweat, it doesn't stop Noah from constantly running outside for various reasons.  Every so often, he likes to take us out to the "garden" to see how things are going.  He's proud of his work, so we go.

Like always, running at full speed, even in the heat.

First Garden

I am so excited to be growing my first vegetables ever!  I have never gardened and don't have much of a green thumb.  Noah and Elliot both have gardens at their schools and have worked in gardens there.  Noah told me he wanted to plant one.  Well, so did I, but was so intimidated.  So who do you call?  Grandma Lois, naturally.  My Grandma & Grandpa have a big garden every year.  Grandma actually dug up a small bed for me on Mother's Day and said the soil was in good shape.  She also helped me pick out some hearty plants.  We started this year with 2 tomato plants, 3 pepper plants, 1 cabbage, 1 lavendar and some transplanted green onions from her garden.

I had everything ready and Noah, Elliot & I planted them after the kids got home from school.

We check our garden everyday.  We look for blooms,  pick lavender, and Noah makes sure the plants stay watered.  A month into it, and it's coming along nicely.  I have some holes in the cabbage some bugs or worms have been eating.  So I bought some organic stuff to spray on it today.  Hopefully that will resolve it.  The ground up egg shells around our plants doesn't seem to be helping the cabbage.

I'm so glad Noah had this idea.  I just bought some cauliflower seeds today.  Hoping for a late harvest on those.  And next year plan to add broccoli, too.

He's a good little gardener
